This
imposing
house
on Thorndike
Pond
Road
in Jaffrey
Center
was
built
by Samuel
Dakin
about
1805.
From
1815
it was
the
home
of Jaffrey’s
first
physician,
Dr.
Adonijah
Howe.
It is
still
owned
by Howe’s
descendants.
The
siting
and
some
of the
detail
are
Greek
Revival
in style.
The
porch
was
a somewhat
later
addition
as was
the
slate
roof.
The
attached
barn
is the
largest
in the
village.
This
house
along
with
its
neighbors
on either
side
present
an attractice
and
unified
streetscape.
